２０２６年９月、日本のスーパーで不思議なことが起きています。新しくとれた２０２６年のお米（新米）が、２０２５年のお米（古米）よりも安い値段で売られています。
In September 2026, a strange thing is happening in Japanese supermarkets. Newly harvested 2026 rice (shinmai) is being sold at a cheaper price than the 2025 rice (komai).
前にお米が足りなかったため、問屋は去年の古いお米を高い値段で店に売っています。しかし、今年はたくさんお米がとれる予定なので、新しいお米は安くなっています。
Because of previous rice shortages, wholesalers are selling last year's old rice to stores at high prices. However, because a large harvest is expected this year, the new rice is priced lower.
このバランスを直すために、国は２０２５年のお米を２１万トン買って、国の備蓄にすることを決めました。
To correct this imbalance, the government decided to buy 210,000 tons of the 2025 rice to use as government reserves.
