春樹は、試験勉強のために、いつもの喫茶店「木洩れ日」に足を踏み入れた。深煎りのコーヒーを注文し、窓際の席で参考書を広げた途端、ふとカウンターの隅に置かれた小さな鉢植えに目が留まった。それは、少々元気をなくしたバジルで、葉先がわずかにしおれているように見えた。
Haruki stepped into his usual cafe, "Komorebi", to study for his exams. The moment he ordered a dark roast coffee and spread out his reference book at the window seat, his eyes suddenly fell upon a small potted plant placed in the corner of the counter. It was a basil plant that had lost a bit of its vigor, its leaf tips looking slightly wilted.
